ORLAND – Master Sergeant Gerald W. Upton, retired, son of George and Lillian Upton, passed away peacefully Dec. 16, 2012, at his home. He was born March 14, 1918, in Bangor.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1966 after having served 26 years. He served in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II, 1943-1945, and served two tours of duty, 1950-1953, in the Korean War.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude A. (Cowan) Upton; and son, Gerald Jr. He is survived by three sons, Robert and wife, Linda, Timothy and wife, Boo; two granddaughters, Rose, Sarah and husband, Del; son, Thomas and wife, Valerie; former wife, Susan; two grandsons, Justin and Brandon; and great-grandson, Bryant; a grandson, Basil Upton, his wife, Melissa, and two great-grandchildren, Katie, Brent and wife, Katie, and great-great-granddaughter, Arianne.
There will be no local service at this time by Gerald’s request. Burial with full military honors, will be in the spring at Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta.
