LYMAN, Maine — Icy road conditions were a major factor in a single-vehicle accident that sent a York County woman to the hospital Monday.
Faith Crosby, 18, of Sanford was traveling eastbound on Route 111 toward Biddeford just before 4 p.m. when she passed a fuel tanker truck and lost control, York County Maj. William King said.
Crosby had to retreat to her lane quickly to avoid oncoming traffic, and spun out on the icy roadway, according to King. Her 2003 Kia went down an embankment and the driver’s-side door hit an oak tree.
Crosby was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Goodall Hospital in Sanford for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, according to King. Her vehicle was totaled.
The York County Sheriff’s Office handled 24 motor vehicle accidents due to Monday’s winter storm, King said.

Icy roads “were a major factor”…..really, I would suggest inappropriate speed for the conditions and improper passing may be at fault…..and the major factor…..lucky young lady…..
My thoughts exactly.
These sorts of crashes are never caused by icy roads, only by drivers deciding to drive too fast and/or pass improperly.
driving a KIA shes lucky to be alive!
New KIA’s have very good crash ratings.

rte 111 has claimed many lives, its hilly and has lots of spots its a passing zone and looks clear but a vehicle can ” hide” in the valleys and pop up as it comes towards you while passing . even in good weather its a hair raiser to pass on.. and the only way to do it safely is get out and in quickly. I can guarantee you she got out there and had a “OH SH**! moment and had to pull back quickly..picking up more speed than she wanted. its a lesson on this road many have learned. some drivers such as this one had it harder then others.
Good ole jabber jaws Electra glide always hated it when I said need a tow by the Heavy Chevy…. What a goober he was. Good Ole Ray…
We need a ban on all icy roads! Get on that will ya democrats?
