BIDDEFORD, Maine — Two more men charged in connection with the Kennebunk prostitution investigation have pleaded guilty to engaging a prostitute.
Matthew Scott, 49, of 121 North Wayne Road, Wayne, and Michael Wears, 52, of 27 Abenaki Lane, Sanford, both pleaded guilty in Biddeford District Court and were fined $500 and $600 respectively.
A third man, Derek Chapman, 32, of 461 Cumberland Ave., Portland, who was summoned to appear in court on a count of engaging a prostitute, did not appear. A judge now will set cash bail and a warrant will be issued for his arrest, a court clerk said.
The three men are among the more than 60 who have been charged with paying for the services of Alexis Wright, 29, of Wells, who police allege ran a prostitution operation out of her Kennebunk Zumba studio and nearby office space for more than a year and a half. Ten men have pleaded guilty in connection with the case and were fined between $400 and $1,000.
Police have been releasing the names of those charged in batches within their biweekly police blotter, which is scheduled to be released again Friday, Dec. 21. A total of 16 men originally were summoned to appear in court Wednesday, but attorneys for the other 13 men have either filed not guilty pleas on their clients’ behalf, with bench trials set for Jan. 22, or have requested a jury trial in York County Superior Court in Alfred.
Wright has pleaded not guilty to the 106 counts against her, including promotion of prostitution, invasion of privacy and tax offenses. She is scheduled for trial in May.

Why , exactly , are these individuals personal , private affairs in the news/courts?
What compulses people to meddle in others affairs such as these?
Krikee, give it a rest ,already.
Why do we need to hear about anyone who breaks the law? Why are DUI’s in the paper or burglary or drug arrests…those are all personal ‘issues’ maybe it it’s because they all BROKE THE LAW…..and it’s no longer ‘private’ when you pay for it- it’s illegal.
Thanks.
How did I miss the obvious?
They broke the law. Doooohh!
Ok, I’ll try again. Why is it illegal to pay for sex?
Just because you don’t agree with a law, that does not invalidate it. If you feel so strongly that prostitution should be legal, work to change the law instead of complaining about it.
Good point.
I have hired a “consultant” to help with this issue.
She works by the hour , so I will be able to manage my finances better.
She has good level of experience for someone
as young as she is. Dont worry , she is of age.
I am looking forward to her “position” on this matter.
I believe that if we as a society ……..
Oooooops , there’s the doorbell,gotta go.
…..I find research of this nature very stimulating.
Ha ha, you do have a sense of humor, glad to see!
LOL, I wouldn`t be so nice, but what the hell, next thing you know it will be a $500 fine to disagree with some one. Maybe, it is already…
That’s not the point.
Because the nosey are curious..
Because we have a lot of keyhole peepers in Maine. It’s so funny, we have one prostitute prosecuted, and it’s a BIG story. The cost of prosecuting all this women’s clients will dwarf whatever is collected. And for what, one prostitute. It would be funny if it weren’t so sick.
Perhaps they are in the news due to the fact that prostitution is viewed as a crime. The “rest” that has not come forth yet is due to the manner in which the names are being released … the Police have already made mention as to why the events are occurring in a less than timely manner. I hear you though, it seems as though the “wounds can’t heal” because they are getting reopened.
If, she has not been convicted of being a prostitute, how, can so-called Johns, be brought to court for engaging a prostitute, if,the court has not proved she was engaging as a prostitute?? It seems she would have to be convicted first, and then the so-called Johns, in, what is becoming more and more, a media circus, it seems, like the cart is before the horse here.
Don’t try to confuse the issue, the state needs the money…
Your right when you say the state needs the money. The reason for that is because the VOTERS of this state (and most other states also) have allowed the government to grow into a monster that has gone WAY OUT OF CONTROL. No longer is it a government “of the people, by the people and for the people”. Most people do not remember that FREEDOM and LIBERTY mean freedom from government interferance in our daily lives. FREEDOM means you have the choice to make a mistake… Think about it…………
they both broke the law, and she is now screwed as her customers are admitting it. Frankly, with written ledgers, (criminals are so stupid, writing down and detailiong their crimes, make it easy to prosecute!) i am sure they have all of the evidence they need to convict.
I agree! If she were somehow found innocent, I think all the alleged johns should get their fine payment back and have their records cleaned up. If she is not guilty, then everyone should get off, um, so to speak.
And, what about her DVD’S?
I don’t think she’ll be found innocent and if she were, it would probably be on a technicality. Still, if she is found innocent, then the videos are nothing but adult videos, and there is no crime in making them, especially if one is unaware they are being made.
ayuhhhh cart before the horse routine…
You must be confused, you think this is still a free country, hahahahahahaha. Freedom in this (USA) country ended when that bullet went through JFK`s head and spilled his brains on the trunk of the car he was in. Didn`t ANY ONE ask themselves WHY the wife of our President jumped onto the trunk of the car, grab something and then get back in the back seat??? She had a handfull of her husbands brains, in her hand, when she got to the hospital…. Not many people know about that as it is not explained very often and mostly it is covered up…
um hello they pled guilty!
It is amazing that the hooker and the pimp are pleading not guilty when so many customers are admitting it.
Pleading not guilty doesn’t mean you are (necessarily) claiming innocence, just that you want the prosecution to prove the case in court.
and i hope they don’t…
Just tickle your brain with the IDEA of JUSTICE, first. Then perhaps, try the idea of Liberty or Freedom….. Pleading guilty means that you have more money than time that you want to devote it the BS that this entire thing is all about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good evil doers need to pay!!!!
No chance of getting the blue mountain clap if you don’t engage in pay for sex with an extreme hottie.. My wife said watching her movies is the same as having sex with her.. I said well maybe , minus the Blue Mountain Clap.. Stuff shows up within 3 years and attacks the stump and it falls off.. My advise is to have a doctor look at it for this particular STD. GOOD LUCK!!!! (-;
I feel really sorry for you brother if your wife feels as though watching a movie is the same as having sex.
Incubation Period for AIDS May Well Be Over 60 Years

Why?
That article has nothing to do with AIDS.Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease is caused by a prion. AIDS, a virus.

“Ten men have pleaded guilty in connection with the case and were fined between $400 and $1,000.”
This doesn’t sound fair because we don’t know how the amounts of the fines were determined. The number of visits? Their height? Their weight? The size of their shoes?
Please, either fill us in or drop the whole unfortunate matter.
The humble Farmer
I agree I actually feel these amounts are way overboard ! Although i don’t know what a john in say N.Y. or LA is fined it just seems extreme…Not like they hurt anyone or destroyed anything.
Why not legalize prostitution, mandate registering name and address plus testing for disease? Use the money they paid to register to pay someone to keep an eye on them. (Make sure that they are doing the testing and so on.)
More news for the ones without a life, nosey busy bodies….
We have the state and law enforcement spending all this time trying to control the bedroom, yet dead last in business growth environment. If it weren’t so pathetic as the Governor and State legislative Clowns it would be funny. This state is dead in the water….work-wise.
