BANGOR, Maine — A department store here closed an hour early Thursday due to a water main break, but no customers were affected.

Don Cammack, construction supervisor at Bangor Water District, got the call from Kmart around 7:30 p.m. when the store’s private line broke.

Kmart is typically open until midnight during the holiday shopping season, but Cammack and store officials decided to close the store and shut the water supply down at 11 p.m. Thursday so crews could rectify the break.

Cammack said no shoppers were affected by the main break, and the store sustained no flooding damage. Crews were able to put what Cammack called a repair sleeve on Kmart’s private water line, and water was turned back on by 1 a.m. Friday.

No homes were affected by the break and there was no flooding in the store.

    1. I was going to say the same, sadly. No customers were affected because the place barely has customers. The merchandise and prices are OK, but the customer service is horrible. I feel bad for people who work there (yes, I go in occasionally) and the stress level is high in spite of never being crowded.

      1. Customer service has gone the way of the buggy whip and the 10-cent cigar! No such thing exists now. I feel sorry for the “associates’ who truly would like to help customers!

      2. If Customer Service Reps had more positive and encouraging leadership, they would probably be more pleasant to deal with yes?

    2. Well that is odd then i was tin there yesterday and there was over 100 people in the store, must be a rare day, huh. I would rather go to Kmart then deal with nasty people that are rude at Walmart
