MACHIAS, Maine — Almost 200 young carolers made the rounds in Machias on Friday morning, brightening the holidays for nursing home residents, hospital patients and others throughout the Washington County community.

Students of kindergarten age up to fourth grade who attend the Rose M. Gaffney Elementary School began their rounds outdoors, in front of the downtown Machias Savings Bank complex at Main and Center streets.

“It’s a tradition that we’ve been doing forever,” said Principal Mitchell Look.
