BANGOR, Maine — Police who were called to investigate a mental health issue at Kenduskeag Terraces on Court Street on Saturday removed what they said were components that could have been used to make an explosive device.

The incident happened after noon, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said in a news release.

Bangor police Sgt. Ken Buckley, who was among the police officers who went to the residence, declined to describe the components. He did say, however, that the items were “very basic” and that the person who had them had not gotten very far in the process.

The Bangor Police Department’s bomb squad was called in and removed items of concern from an apartment, Edwards said. The items have been destroyed.

An individual whose name was not released was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No charges had been filed as of late Saturday afternoon, Edwards said. The incident remains under investigation.

    1. What is the name of the person that owns this building? And yes, I’m asking because I’m interested in seeing property owners be more accountable for the rental choices that they make.

          1. Proud to say that in 20 or so years in my field, I managed to quite intentionally jam-up a few slumlords. Very few things I detest more than somebody who rents dumps to folks on purpose to make money for himself — seems no different than spitting in a mans face.

          2. Yeah, but first we need to put on our Lets Pretend Caps and act like tenement slums in most cities for the past 70 years or so have something, anything, to do with Obama. And then stretch that into some poor bustard — not on welfare or any kind of aid — with a wife, three kids and a job in The Mill has much choice about where they can afford to live.

Yowsa, there’s a lot more to real life that trying to imagine Obama into every situation. It’s worn out, played, tired — not even funny anymore. =)

      1. You should run for public office and get a law passed that reflects your concern,Until then keep whining!

      2. Yeah hold anyone responsible but the person who did the deed.

As a landlord I must ask if you know the law about people with disabilities (A.D.A.) Do you know the price I would pay if I refused to rent to someone because they were mentally ill?

        Didn’t think so.

As the poster below said.. run for public office. get the A.D.A. law changed. Good luck with that.

        1. ADA, yeah one more well-intentioned plan that went right off the rails. Started out as a fair idea — equal access to buildings, parking spots, restrooms, etc — and turned into a monster because none of the well-meaning folks ever thought it through to the end. Now it’s THE LAW that a wheelchair-bound paranoid schizophrenic crack-head gets an apartment next door to nice retired elders… Swell, wtg.

        2. Actually – the law that we’re going to change is the landlord accountability ordinance. The ADA law exists to protect vulnerable people. So will the ordinance.

      3. Some how I suspect that the landlord, if (s)he even knew that the renter had mental health issues, could have kept the tenant out. There are laws protecting mental health paitents, the hell with other tenants.

      4. If one owns more than a two unit, they have to be an equal opportunity renter. Besides, the person may not have had a previously known or current mental issue. They are just accused of being mental.

Was what they had a crime, charges??? Then, why are they being hospitalized against their will, and losing more rights than someone who gets a chance in court? If they committed a crime they should be arrested first.

Where is their chance to prove mentally sanity, before losing rights??? The chance to have witnesses in their favor before losing rights to life, liberty and property, as the 14th amendment states no one can take the right to life, liberty and property without due process of law???

Often treated like children by court and lose their voice, but children are dependents and many people are expected to be independent people and are not considered disabled, how come they lose rights, and lose the right to prove they are not mental, or safe without getting a chance to gather witnesses in their favor???

No two people are the same, and people are very mean to those who are different, disabled or not. How many people nonchalantly say something is stupid, or someone is crazy or stupid if they are different or they do not understand them. If someone is taken seriously and in the wrong context it can and will hurt people.

Freedom of speech is all fine and dandy until it hurts someone and takes their right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness away.

People talk about each other and how they would raise children etc. All fine and dandy until a Guardian Ad Litem enters the neighborhood.

  1. Was it open carry or did he/she have a concealed bombs permit… I think, yet not certain that bombs may be illegal. I think we have a bomb ban here in the USA.

  2. 1. Keep it civil and stay on topic

    2. No vulgarity, racial slurs, name-calling or personal attacks.

    3. People who harass others or joke about tragedies will be blocked.

The juvenile behavior here is disgusting.

    1. Really you think people are gonna follow these rules, your funny. So many people on here have mulitple screen names, Bangor daily does NOTHING about name calling , slurs, anything. You just wasted space on board

      1. I agree!! BDN should not allow any comments at all. Nothing good has ever come from the comments, its a joke! I check it out only for entertainment. It really is sad that there is some people that live on their computer and this stuff is a big part of their lives. BDN’s please cut off comments, completely!!!!!

        1. I have been banned from this site twice, and i know another person that i wont mention who never gets banned but there comments stay up, no matter how nasty or naughty there are. You call and complain, send emails they do nothing. Moderators thinks its funny, its getting to the point i will not even get the newspaper anymore bought, all it is a joke. Bangor daily needs a serious overhaul with new employees

          1. Sadly, it’s the advertising on the comment page’s that keep this paper alive, click’s = $$$$!! What the advertisers don’t realize is that all the clicks are just the same handful of comment junkies that don’t read the advertisements at all, The junkies are only here to let us know how smart they are, and they consistently fail miserably!!

          2. Not only that i have heard that each like comment get them from ten cents to 25cents a piece. Now that is a rumor, but i heard that from a staff member at Bdn.

          3. Perhaps that is true, there has to be a reason why they let some of this stuff continue. All in the name of $$$$$$$. People get hurt because of the ignorant comment junkies, that is just not right and yet BDN’s lets it continue$$$$$

          4. I wish I could give more than one like. Man, these folks who would stifle speech in the name of PC.

            Thanks Larry

          5. Larry, after reading the comments don’t you feel that you have learned so much more about this story? don’t you think the comments have added to the story? Come on Larry, what good is it? If BDN’s stopped all comments I would be happy, sadly comment junkies like you would be lost!

          6. I was banned last year from this site one morning
and later that day , the intrepid reporter , Nok Noi Ricker
emailed me asking for help with a story about the Adult Films
being filmed at a certain motel in Brewer.
I responded to her to help get me reinstated on this site.

She said she couldnt help out.
… So , fair is fair. I didnt help her either.
Too bad , cause the BDN readers missed out on a great story
cause she let it slip through her fingers.
.. Im sure the Editors were pleased with her performance that day.

          7. The Bangor Daily is not now, nor has it been recently interested in real “news.” The BDN has become a forum for the uber PC editors to push their agenda.

There are certain words you may not use, but if you are creative you can get around this.

You may not describe the male of female body parts that the BDN staff has deemed erotic.

You may not use the shortened version of the name for the 1930’s German National Socialist party..
You may not use any other word which means prostitute.
You may not use the word which describes a glass milk bottle full of gasoline with a rag inserted in the opening.
You may not use the biblical word for donkey.
You may not use any other word which describes excrement.
You may not use any other word which describes intercourse.
You may not complete the sentence “Every village has an Id**t” or use that word in any other context.

There are a bunch more, but I’m sure readers get the point.

            Go ahead censors flag away.

          1. Unfortunately very few. Yes from time to time someone will have some info or will add to a story but most are ignorant to any issue. Perhaps 1 in 100…

          2. Remember pushtheredbutton, the comments are opinions from someone with a fake name! I truly hope you understand that.

  3. Why is it ‘suspicious packages’ etc are always ‘destroyed’ but we are never told if they were dangerous or not?

    1. Because ” The Authorities” would look foolish if it was posted they

“destroyed” a suspicious box of Dunkin Donuts doughnuts.

      1. The only one I remember hearing about was the water cannon blowing up a backpack of women’s unmentionables….

    2. Probably some firecrackers, but not very far in the process of blowing anything up due to the fact they had no matches

    1. Funny thing its been flagged several times and it does not get removed, and she has another screen name too, wong dong is the name

      1. Yeah all you censors keep up the big-brother button pushing. probably the only thing you know how to do well.

        1. First of all i pushed the button once, not that you have not ever done that, and dont say you havent. Everyone on here has. Second of all, your comment is pretty rude , you want your child getting on here seeing crap like that . Well that is your choice if you are a parent, doubt it highly but that is your choice. Peace Out bro

          1. Nope never pushed the censor button.

….and I’m from the “No justice no peace” branch of the 60’s generation.

          1. Are you one of the censors? I haven’t seen your tag on the removals yet.

I like hearing from EVERYONE, even those with whom I disagree. I resent having comments removed before I get to see them. I also know how easy it is to get a comment removed. all one person must do is have several identities, flag with each of them, and the comment disappears even if the commenter did not violate policy.

  4. C’mon now. Be nice! After all this is a garden tea party and decorum is required.
I’ll have clotted cream with my crumpets and scones, thank you….

    1. Yeah right… sounds like the “Toystorytwo generation hasn’t a clue what Detroit looks like. Here’s an example if you wish:

      http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1882089_1850973,00.html

Blocks and blocks of burned out residential dwellings. miles and miles of wasteland where factories and stores used to flourish.

Literally thousands of crack addicts slithering around the ruins like a scene from the walking dead, only instead on looking for human flesh they are picking the bones of a dying city for anything they can exchange for their drug of choice.

      Looks just like Bangor right?

        1. I know you are being factious, but Detroit’s decline can be blamed on both Parties and every president since Kennedy.

It is disgusting to watch what was once a great US city fall to ruin because of Federal policies which benefit everyone in the world except U.S. citizens.

      1. You people need to stop taking everything so literally. Yes, I have been to Detroit, but it is irrelevant because I was exaggerating. Obviously Bangor is no Detroit, but again, I was not speaking literally. I was using a hyperbole to make the point that crime in Bangor has seemed to increase quite significantly in the past several years.

        1. On the other hand, Detroit is no Bangor, and will not be until Bangorian moves there to clean up THEIR slumlords.

I know it’s a stretch, but we can all dream.

  5. If hand-held, or able to be hand-held, would they not be considered “arms” and covered by the 2nd amendment? Surely, everyone should be able to collect a few lethal explosives? [sarcasm alert]
