RAYMOND – L. Allan Wood passed away peacefully Jan. 3, 2013, at Gosnell House, Scarborough, after a large stroke. He was born Aug. 15, 1937, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Walter and Nina Wood.
He grew up on a small farm with three brothers and three sisters. Al attended the University of Saskatoon, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. He moved to Montreal, where he met and married Bonnlynn Treffery, a young nursing student studying at Royal Victoria Hospital. The couple moved to Maine, where Al worked as an industrial engineer, eventually becoming a self-employed consultant with long-term employment at FMC Corp., Rockland. Al loved an adventure. In 1982 he took his family on an extended bicycle tour of Great Britain. A few years later he surprised his wife with a trip to St. John. They both loved the island and returned many, many times. Al especially loved snorkeling and catching up with island friends, and having a beer at the Beach Bar.
Al is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnlynn Wood of Raymond; a son, Glenn Wood and Tammy Miranda of Old Orchard Beach; and a daughter and son-in-law, Michilyn and Geoffrey Bourgeois of Lyman.
A celebration of his life is being planned for the near future with all family and friends welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Stroudwater Animal Shelter or Friends of Feral Felines.
He was a good, kind-hearted man. He was well loved and deeply missed. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home, Casco.
