PRESQUE ISLE – Bette A. Carney, 67, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 6, 2013, at a Presque Isle health care facility with her family at her side. She was born May 22, 1945, in Presque Isle, daughter of Rodney F. “Blackie” and Joyce (Merritt) Black.
Bette drove school bus for SAD 1 for a number of years.
She is survived by her two children, a daughter, Paula Hammond and husband, Frank, of Lincoln; son, Randy Carney and wife, Heidi, of Presque Isle; six beloved “grandbabies,” Katelyn, Jacob, Emily, and Nicholas Hammond, Courtney and Samantha Carney; half sister, Dr. Roxi Black of Cumberland; brother, Joseph Black of Monticello; and their respective families. Bette lived for her grandchildren, family, and her friends. She will be missed by special friends, Ray Stevens, Katherine Buck, Linda Brenaman and Marcilyn Carter; her many neighbors and all whose lives she was such a special part of.
Friends may call 6-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Larry Palmer officiating. Spring interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Online condolences may be expressed at
