ORLAND – Millard A. Clement, a gentle soul, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at his home. He will be greatly missed by his family and the community, both of whom he served faithfully. Millard was born March 22, 1924, in Orland, on the farm of his parents, Jay and Doris Clement
His high school graduation was in 1942 from Higgins Classical Institute, Charleston. At that time he entered the Army Air Corps and was discharged at the end of World War II. He later served his country in the Air National Guard during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring at age 60 in 1984. This amazing man received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maine and put that to good use when working in the engineering department for the paper company in Bucksport, Maine retiring as chief engineer in 1998. Because he saw the need to assist in local government and local education, he spent many years on the Orland School and Planning boards.
He is survived by his wife, Leah; and nine children, Karen Sorey and husband, Donald, of Bucksport, Paula Kliewer and husband, Michael, of Cannon Beach, Ore., Jay and wife, Rhonda, of Orland, John and partner, Peter, of Jacksonville, Fla., James of Palmer, Alaska, Bob and wife, Melanie, of Fountain Inn, S.C., Daniel and partner, Norris, who live in Ellsworth, Peter and wife, Carrie, of Camden, and Joel of Orland. He also leaves 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His sister, Peggy of Virginia; and brother, John Phillip of California are still alive, while he was predeceased by brother, Merrill; and sister, Rachel. Those who knew Millard will agree the he was soft spoken and loyal to a fault.
Family and friends will gather for visitation 3 p.m. until the time of service 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Bucksport Bible Church, 16 Central St., Bucksport. Donations in Millard’s memory may be made to Bucksport Christian School, 16 Central St., P.O. Box Q, Bucksport, ME 04416. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
