WATERVILLE, Maine — A vehicle burst into flames in a department store parking lot Monday.
Waterville fire Chief David LaFountain said the fire at the Marden’s parking lot was called in at approximately 2:18 p.m.
The 2005 Lexus had smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment when firefighters got to the scene, according to LaFountain. Firefighters were able to extinguish it quickly.
LaFountain said the vehicle had extensive damage to the engine compartment and the dashboard. He said the fire originated in the right side of the engine compartment.
The vehicle’s owner told firefighters she had gone into Marden’s about an hour before the fire was noticed, LaFountain said. Her name was not released.
“She did not report any mechanical problems,” said LaFountain.
