BANGOR – Lida Ruth Lammert, 88, passed away peacefully with her family’s love and prayers Jan. 20, 2013. She was born Nov. 18, 1924, in New Castle, Ind., and had lived the vast majority of her life in Indianapolis and Martinsville, Ind.

She was head nurse at Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis, in the late 1940s. Following marriage and beginning a family, she carried her nursing skills home by vaccinating neighborhood children, caring for her mother-in-law, and repairing the many scrapes, cuts, broken bones and bruises that go along with having three sons and a daughter. Her final nursing years went to caring for her husband who had Alzheimer’s disease for many years. She and her husband enjoyed their retirement years at a lakefront home in Martinsville, Ind., and by snow birding to Florida during the winters. She loved traveling and vacations, and was the queen of quilting, crafting and cooking, bringing home many ribbons from the county fairs.
