A New Gloucester man was seriously injured Thursday in a single-vehicle accident on Sabbathday Road, police said.

Arnold Dean Eldridge, 59, of 747 Snow Hill Road was driving a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta southbound on Sabbathday Road at 12:30 p.m. His car crossed the center line and launched over a snowbank before it flew through the air.

When it landed, his car struck a parked vehicle, which was pushed into another parked vehicle.

Eldridge, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, struck the windshield with his face, breaking the glass.

Police said his injuries were serious, but not life-threatening. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

No one else was injured in the crash, police said.

Police said the cause of the crash appears to be related to alcohol and speed. Test results are pending, which, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Don Goulet said, “could lead to the appropriate criminal charges.”
