BANGOR, Maine — Police have charged two people in connection with a rash of purse thefts that occurred in the city in December and January.

Sgt. Paul Edwards said Thursday that Shannon Keene, 32, and Levi Archer, 32, both of Bangor, have both been summoned for three counts of misdemeanor theft.

The thefts, which police are still investigating, involved victims having their purses snatched from shopping carts at area supermarkets after the purses were left unattended for a short period of time, according to Edwards.

Several tips from the public helped lead police to charge Keene and Archer.
