MACHIAS, Maine — More than 8,000 Bangor Hydro- Electric Co. customers in Washington County were without power at 4 p.m. Monday due to an outage first reported at 2:15 p.m. that originally affected 13,000 households and businesses.
Communities affected at 4 p.m. included Eastport, Jonesport, Cutler, Harrington and East Machias. Areas of Machias were affected earlier in the outage, but have since been restored.
Bangor Hydro is blaming a transmission line failure for the outage but at 4 p.m. hadn’t determined the exact location of the problem.
“We are still attempting to determine the cause, and I expect it will take another two-plus hours for power to be restored,” said Bob Potts, a Bangor Hydro spokesperson.
