BANGOR – Forrest H. Pooler, 90, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at a local nursing facility. He was born July 10, 1922, in Portland, the son of the late William M. and Minor (Olsen) Pooler.
Forest graduated from Scarborough High School where he played on the basketball team. He met the love of his life, Florence at a dance in Portland. They were married July 10, 1944, and kept on dancing which was one of their favorite pastimes. Through their married life they lived in Orrington, and later moved to Bucksport. Forest worked at St. Regis Paper Company until retiring in 1984. He also enjoyed golfing, and especially getting a hole-in-one at Bangor Municipal Golf Course. Forest was a really hard worker all of his life. A very caring, giving and loving husband, father, brother, son and grandfather. He was always there if you needed anything. Forest will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Marie and her husband, Charles Stegner, of Bucksport; a very special daughter-in-law, Jackie Gilman of Bangor; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Forest was predeceased by his loving wife, Florence; very special son, Richard Gilman; sister, Elva Clinch; and brother, George Pooler. The family would like to thank the staff and care givers at Ross Manor for the care, love and respect they gave him.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Bangor Kingdom Hall, 2024 Broadway, Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately after the service.
