SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Police Chief Edward Googins announced Wednesday that Det. Chris Todd has been named the city’s officer of the year through 2012.

Todd, a 12-year veteran of the South Portland force, works in the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Googins said in a statement that Todd “has investigated and cleared several complicated and high-profile cases” in his role as a detective since 2010.

Todd was chosen by the department’s supervisors, marking the second time he has won officer of the year in the city, with the prior honor coming in 2008.

Todd will be honored by the South Portland City Council at their March 4 meeting.
