BANGOR, Maine — The Machias girls basketball team made its first visit to the Bangor Auditorium in 16 years a memorable one on Monday.

The fifth-ranked Bulldogs, who hadn’t played in a regional quarterfinal since 1997, earned their first Auditorium victory since 1995 by ousting No. 4 Fort Fairfield 53-49 in a Class D quarterfinal.

Katie Whitney paced Machias’ effort with 20 points, including 13 in the second half. Becca Lee contributed 11 points and Tate Dolley 10.

Fort Fairfield was led by Sydney Churchill’s game-high 27 points.
