LIMERICK, Maine — A fire that began in a wall Saturday morning temporarily shut down a local pizzeria and two other businesses located in the same building, the town’s acting fire chief said.
The fire the Pizza Mill began about 9:10 a.m., acting fire Chief Michael McLean said early Saturday afternoon.
Fire crews initially received reports of smoke in the building, a former yarn mill complex at 171 Washington St. that also houses the Pepper Mill restaurant and H&R Block, McLean said.
“We found fire in a wall when we got in there and knocked it down,” he said, crediting quick response by firefighters from Limerick, Waterboro, Limington and Newfield, for containing damage to the pizza business, which had mostly water damage. Fire crews remained at the scene until about noon.
No one was injured in connection with the fire, which happened while the businesses were closed, he said.
McLean said that the Pepper Mill and H&R Block were allowed to reopen about 3:30 p.m. but that the Pizza Mill was going to be closed until sometime next week.
McLean said the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
