MASARDIS – Merle I. Littlefield, 83, died unexpectedly March 1, 2013, at his residence. He was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Masardis, the son of Ivan L. and Ruth A. (Snow) Littlefield.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, working as a heavy equipment operator. He returned to Masardis and did the same work building roads and construction in the North Maine Woods. Merle retired in 1995 and enjoyed every day of his retirement. He was an avid sportsman and loved the woods, wildlife, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his brother, Vaughn E. Littlefield and his wife, Elaine, of Mapleton; a sister-in-law, Patricia Littlefield of Roseville, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Warren N. Littlefield.
At Merle’s request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held in the family lot of Masardis Municipal Cemetery at a time to be announced in the spring.
