BANGOR – Jane Dobak passed away peacefully March 11, 2013, in Bangor, after a valiant fight with ovarian cancer. She was born Nov. 6, 1943, in New York City, the daughter of John D. and Carolyn D. Dobak.
Jane spent a happy childhood with her family in Bayside, N.Y. She graduated from Bayside High School in 1960, and earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1964. Her early adult years were spent in New York City as a commercial artist and teacher, later moving to Bangor to be nearer her family. While in Maine she designed and produced her own series of greeting cards and served as an at-home caregiver for those with Alzheimer’s disease.
Jane led a joyful life and will be dearly missed by her sister, Carolyn and her husband, Charles W. Smith, of Old Town; her niece, Wendy Smith of Scarborough; her nephew, Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Clover, of San Francisco; and a most special loved one, Jeff Larsen of Hampden, with whom she share much joy, tenderness and spiritual growth for many years. She was predeceased by her parents. The family thanks the staff of the Lafayette Center and most recently, Ross Manor for their compassionate care.
There will be no services, but please remember Jane in your own way, sharing a smile, making another happier and enjoying the beauty of the world. In lieu of cards and flowers, it was Jane’s wish that family and friends send a contribution to Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
