BANGOR, Maine — A Penobscot Job Corps student was charged with assault Thursday night after a 17-year-old girl rejected his advances on the campus of the Bangor facility, police said.

Ernie Scott, 21, was summoned by police but not arrested, according to Lt. Steve Hunt. The Class D misdemeanor charge is punishable by up to a year in prison.

Security at the Job Corps wound up calling Bangor police just before 10 p.m. when Scott was touching the girl in a manner she did not want to be touched, Hunt said. It was not in a manner that constituted sexual assault, however.

The girl had no visible injuries and there was no argument between the pair that provoked the assault, the lieutenant said.
