PEMBROKE – Vera Louise Barnes, 87, wife of the late Frank E. Barnes, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Vera was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Pembroke, daughter of the late Leon and Vida (Willey) Haynes.
Vera married Frank Barnes in 1946 and she worked at the local sardine factories and woolen mills. She joined the Grange in 1951 which she and Frank really enjoyed being members of. Vera also loved to dance.
In addition to her parents; she was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank Barnes; two brothers, Chester and Harry; sister Virginia Allen; step-son Robert Barnes; and step-daughter Betty Barnes Modery. Surviving are her grandchildren, Barry and Suzanne Pottle of Hermon, Cindy Nightingale of Hermon, Robert Barnes and wife, Jennifer, of Portland, Kelley Henderson and husband, David, of Johnson City, Tenn., and Brian Barnes and wife, Denise, of Seattle, Wash.; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family would like to thank the staff at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home for the loving care Gram received. A very special thank you to Inez Pastore and Patty Craig for the special friendship and visits they made to brighten Gram’s day. A special thanks also to Lucy Modery for all the visits while Gram was at the Bangor nursing home. Thank you to all the friends and family that went to visit her.
