HOLDEN and CARIBOU – Thelma Louise Chapman, 80, wife of the late Basil S. Chapman Jr., passed away April 6, 2013, in Holden, after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 5, 1932, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Basil and Elizabeth (McDougal) Hardgrove.
She attended Caribou schools and was a communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou. She was married to Basil S. Chapman Jr. on Sept. 2, 1950, and had been employed at Caribou Nursing Home. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook and mother to many.
In addition to her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her husband Basil, on April 13, 1992; two brothers, Leonard and Dale Hardgrove; two sisters, Beatrice Nadeau and Flora Andrews; and son-in-law, Jim Plourde. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Trisha Chapman of Hancock Rodney and Michelle Chapman of Orland, Mark and Trudie Chapman of Hancock, and Donald and Glenda Chapman of Caribou; two daughters, Debbie Plourde and companion, Jim Muth, of Holden and Lynn Chapman of Caribou; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Jeannie Hardgrove of West Halifax, Vt., and Dee and Esther Hardgrove of Brunswick; two sisters, Harriet Jacobs of Milford, Conn., and Ella Guiggey of Georgia; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Interment will be held later in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou.
