BELFAST — Ray Wirth of Belfast won his second straight race of the young canoe racing season when he navigated his kayak through the 8-mile Passagassawaukeag River Race in 42 minutes, 36 seconds Saturday.
Wirth, who won last week’s St. George River Race in Searsmont, finished more than three minutes ahead of the two-person canoe team of Barry and Lori Dana of Solon. The husband-and-wife team clocked a second-place time of 45:07.
Another canoe team, Chris Francis of Levant and Mark Ranco of Bangor, finished third in 46:37 while kayakers David Nutt of Edgecomb (46:53) and Ben Randall of Sabattus (46:54) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
A total of 92 crafts finished the race.
