ROME, Maine — Maine State Police arrested a man Thursday who is suspected of committing more than a thousand burglaries, slipping into camps at night to steal supplies to support his existence as a hermit.

The Kennebec Journal reports that Christopher Knight, 47, took only what he needed to survive in the wilderness for the past 27 years. He is currently at the Kennebec County jail, where he is being held in lieu of $5,000 cash bail on charges of burglary and theft.
