KITTERY, Maine — Police are evacuating homes in the area of Walker Street and Route 1 after a suspicious bag was found on the side of State Road, which is the Route 1 bypass, on Friday afternoon, police said.
A Kittery police dispatcher said the bag was found around noon, and Kittery police and fire officials are on scene, while state police are en route.
At 1:45 p.m., the dispatcher said homes in the area where the bag was discovered were being evacuated.
