BLUE HILL – Helen Marguerite (Osgood) Butler, 91, passed away April 23, 2013, peacefully in her sleep. She was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Blue Hill, to John Howard Osgood and Mary Leila (Coombs) Osgood.
Helen graduated from George Stevens Academy in 1939 and received her hairdressing degree in Philadelphia in 1946. She worked in the profession for more than 50 years. Helen was a member of American Legion post of Blue Hill and Mountain Rebekah Lodge, where she devoted many years of service. Perhaps her greatest accomplishment was being a phenomenal mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her much loved family. Helen was truly an inspiration. In recent years, she was adoringly known as “Nana Banana.” Helen will always be remembered for her love of the children surrounding her and endless supply of candy. Helen was adored by everyone who knew her and blessed them all with endless positivity and kindness. She was one of the founding members of the town of Blue Hill and extremely proud to be party of such a wonderful community.
Helen is survived by daughter, Nancy Hastings; grandson, Randal Hastings and wife, Andrea; grandson, Craig Hastings; granddaughter, Nichole Bebout and husband, Shannon; great-grandchildren, Lilyana, Alexander, Maria and Sophia Bebout; and granddaughters, Nancy Laine Astbury, Kaiya Torrey and Meredith Torrey. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Walter R. Butler, in 1986; daughter, Janet Butler Torrey, in 2012; brothers, John Osgood, in 2003 and Richard Osgood, in 2006; and great-granddaughter, Siena Nichole Bebout, in 2007.
