KENDUSKEAG, Maine — A Bangor man escaped with minor injuries Monday morning when his pickup truck struck a tree head-on, according to police.

Jerry Moore, 51, had swerved to avoid two deer on Kenduskeag Levant Road and lost control of his pickup truck, Deputy Bob Pelletier of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said.

Pelletier said the accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Monday.

Moore complained of back pain at the scene and was treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center and released, the deputy said. Moore was wearing his seat belt, which likely saved his life, Pelletier said.

“If he wasn’t wearing his seat belt he probably would’ve been ejected through the windshield,” said Pelletier.

Moore’s GMC Sonoma pickup was demolished in the crash.
