CALAIS – Adolphus “Dolph” G. Lentz, 94, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013, at David Estates, Machias. Dolph was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Charlotte, N.C., son of the late Adolphus G. and Kathleen (Keister) Lentz.
Dolph served in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy Seabees Second Battalion during World War II. He worked for Dead River Oil Company for 36 years, retiring in 1981 as branch manager. Dolph was a member of Calais United Methodist Church, Sherman Bros. Post No. 3 American Legion, Calais, and Boyd-Smith Post No. 9779, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Calais. He was past president of Calais Rotary Club, past member of Literacy Volunteers of America in Maine, and past member of the board of directors of Calais Regional Hospital.
Dolph was predeceased by his wife, Winifred E. (Kelley) Lentz, Feb. 8, 2005; daughter, Pauline “Honey” Chase; and two grandsons, Thomas C. Robinson and Dolph Frost. Surviving is his son, Clifford “Kip” Robinson and wife, Barbara, of Machias; granddaughter, Brenda L. Ramsdell and husband, Randy, of East Machias; great-granddaughters, Kellie Ramsdell Kilton and husband, Adam, and Shana Ramsdell; grandson, Dominic Frost; great-great-granddaughters, Kisten and Baylee Kilton; two brothers, Joe Lentz and wife, Loretta, of Charlotte, N.C., and Tom Lentz of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Calais Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make gifts in Dolph’s memory to Calais United Methodist Church, 849 Main St., Calais, ME 04619, or to a charity of one’s choice.
