ORLAND – Maxime L. “Max” Mushrall Jr., “Music in my soul, dancing in my toes,” died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at a Bangor health care facility, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born June 23, 1930, in D’alma St. Joseph, Canada, son of Maxime L. and Elsie (Houle) Mushrall.
Max graduated from Bucksport High, class of 1949. A tap dancer, he attained the title of Eagle Scout and aviator at age 15. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, 1951-1955, served in the Korean War and was an air craft mechanic. He played Taps for his fellow soldiers of World War II. He worked for St. Regis and Champion Paper Mill for 36 years as a foreman. He also worked as a security guard for Bucksport School Department. Max was a proud communicant of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, served as a eucharistic minister with Father Jack O’Hare and predeceased, Father Gower. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 93 and the U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary, Bucksport. Max loved people, had a good sense of humor, loved to watch his grandchildren play sports and loved family get togethers, he always wanted to make someone laugh. He had many hobbies including, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, flying his ultra light and traveling to 219 in his motor home for 13 years.
Max will be sadly missed by his wife, Barbara (Stevens) Mushrall; daughters, Cheryl Fuller of North Carolina and Yvette Candage of Bangor; brother, Robert and Marcia of Orland; sister, Charlene and Richard Dibias of Orland; stepchildren, Lee and Janet Stevens of Bucksport, Jeffrey Stevens of Howland, Pam and John Ellis Jr. of Swanville, Rosie and Robert Fish of Bucksport, Lorie Stevens and Officer Matt Cyr of Bucksport and April and Ryan Beckwith of Bangor; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Max was predeceased by his parents; sons, Stephen and Paul; and canine companion, Tucker. The family expresses thanks to the staff of the B-unit at Maine Veteran’s Home, Bangor, and a special thank you to Beacon Hospice.
Family and friends will gather for visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, with Fr. Bruce Sicket as celebrant. Burial will be after Mass at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Cemetery, Bucksport.
