EASTPORT – Sandra “Sandy” Rae Stevens, 74, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, with her family by her side at a Bangor hospital. Sandy was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Calais, daughter of Milton and Calla (Magoon) Peacock.
Sandra grew up in Crawford and Calais and became an accomplished dancer. At the age of 13 she started to teach dancing to a class of 100 students. When Sandy turned 15 she started her own dancing school, Sandy’s School of Dance. After attending school in Calais she got married and lovingly raised her four children. After her children were raised, Sandy became a caregiver for the elderly, an occupation that she truly loved. She enjoyed traveling the United States, reading mysteries, gardening and wintering in Bunnell, Fla., where she was active in many community events. Sandy will be remembered by many for her love of dancing, love of family and her kindness and caring personality.
She was predeceased by her father, Milton. Surviving is her mother, Calla Greenlaw of Eastport; her loving companion and friend of 17 years, Jack Worrell of Florida and Eastport; four children, her twins, Vicki Smith and husband, Peter, of Dennysville, and Ricki Lank of Portland, Sue Lank and partner, Evelyn Liell, of Staten Island, N.Y., and Cathy Bean of Lincoln; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; stepfather, Gordon Greenlaw of Florida; sister, Sharon Trecartin of Beverly Hills, Fla.; special cousins, Patsy and Dickie Magoon of North Anson; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends in Eastport and Florida.
