ROCKLAND, Maine — Nominations have been given for two principal positions at elementary schools within Regional School Unit 13.
Ainslee Riley, a former valedictorian from George Valley High School in Thomaston and later a longtime teacher in the district, has been nominated to become principal of both Lura Libby School in Thomaston and the Cushing Community School.
Riley taught math at Thomaston Grammar School for 13 years and for the past two years has been a math teacher at Oceanside High School West in Thomaston.
Lura Libby has 173 students while Cushing has 75.
Superintendent Lew Collins has nominated Riley. The RSU 13 Board will consider confirming her appointment at its meeting scheduled for Thursday night at the McLain School in Rockland.
Riley succeeds Beth Chamberlin who has been with the district for 35 years, first as a home economics teacher at Thomaston Grammar, then assistant principal starting in 1991 and principal beginning in 1992.
Collins also nominated Lynsey Ward as principal for the South School in Rockland.
Ward has served as interim principal at the school since November. She had previously been assistant principal and teacher at Rockland District Middle School.
South School has an enrollment of 296 students.
Her confirmation will also be voted on by the board next Thursday.
