BANGOR – Stanley J. Shaboski, 97, died June 2, 2013, at a local hospital, after a brief illness. He was born June 26, 1915, in Bangor, the son of Joseph and Pauline (Ostaficzek) Shaboski.
Stanley was a life long resident of Bangor and a Catholic Communicant. He and his wife Mary lived on Elm Street in Bangor for 60 years. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Stanley worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years, retiring in 1981.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda Rice and husband, Jeff, of Glenburn, Judy Gass and husband, Tom, of Bangor and Nancy Stedman and husband, Bruce, of Buxton; two sisters, Amelia Shaboski and Sophie Wood of Bangor; six grandchildren, Megan Wendell and husband, Mason, of Pennsylvania, Ryan Gass and wife, Sarah, of Colorado, Abby Gordon and husband, Steve, of Canada, Simon Rice of North Carolina, and Nathan and Emma Rice of Glenburn; three great-grandchildren, Lyra Wendell, Judah and Hannah Gordon; and his best friend and companion, Little Bit. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 2000; and in his later years lived at the Country Villa where the staff loved and cared for him. He then moved to the Winterberry Memory Unit where he was enjoyed by all for his wit and good nature. The family would like to thank the staff at Winterberry, Country Villa, and the fourth floor staff at St. Joseph Hospital for their kind and loving care of Stanley.
Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Bangor. Interment will be after in the family lot at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Friends who wish may make donations to Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, or Beacon Hospice, 304 Hancock St., Bangor.
