BANGOR, Maine — An equipment malfunction will delay the closing of the eastbound lanes of the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge for a week, according to public works officials.

Bangor Public Works Director Dana Wardwell said Monday that the lanes running from Bangor to Brewer will be closed to traffic on June 20.

The lanes were originally slated to close on Wednesday.

Wardwell said a piece of blasting equipment used to suck paint up malfunctioned during work on Monday.

BDN sports freelancer Ryan McLaughlin grew up in Brewer and is a lifelong fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins.
