BUCKSPORT, Maine — A train derailment blocked Route 15 for several hours Saturday night and early Sunday morning but was described Monday by one official as relatively minor.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. Saturday as a train headed north across the highway near Harriman Cove Road, according to local public safety personnel. The road was blocked for several hours, until around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, but there were no other public safety issues posed by the incident, they said. Traffic was rerouted onto Silver Lake and Town Farm roads while Route 15 was blocked.

Bill Cohen, spokesman for the mill, said Monday that the incident was “no big deal.” It involved a train that had left the mill carrying paper products and only a couple of wheels came off the tracks, he said. Nothing spilled from the train and no rail cars overturned, he said.
