PORTLAND, Maine — A body believed to be that of a missing Portland fisherman was found around 8 a.m. Tuesday near the Custom House Wharf.
Portland city spokeswoman Nicole Clegg said the body has been tentatively identified as 66-year-old George Manning.
Manning, a fisherman, had been reported missing Monday by co-workers on the vessel Northstar, which had been docked at the end of Custom House Wharf, Clegg said.
Manning had been living aboard the vessel, the city spokeswoman said.
Divers had searched waters Monday and Tuesday in the area where Manning disappeared.
The body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy and positive identification, Clegg said. No cause of death has been released.
