BANGOR – E. Darlene Burgess, 70, of Bangor passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013 in Bangor. She was born April 20, 1943, in Bridgewater, the daughter of Frank and Sylvia Sharpe.
Darlene was a graduate of Bridgewater Classical Academy, class of 1961. She worked at Eastern Maine Medical Center as a nursing technician for 32 years. She was an avid Bingo player, enjoyed going out to eat, shopping, and listening to gospel music.
She is predeceased by her husband, Alexander R. Burgess, and a granddaughter, Sarah Holmes. Darlene is survived by her significant other, Walter Demmons; her six children, Karen Clukey and husband, Charles, of St. Albans; Guy Holmes and partner, Leslie, of Florida; Tammy Wetmore of Alabama, Ron Holmes and wife, Laurie, of Bangor, Sue Cary and significant other, James, of Bucksport, and Ricky Holmes of Old Town; two sisters, Patricia Browning of Presque Isle and Elaine Kinney of Madison; grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda, Stephanie, Kristy, Thomas, Crystal, Sierra, Meghan and Ricky; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, good friends and her beloved dog, Lucy.
A time of visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 17, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, with pastor Bruce Stevens officiating. Burial will take place at Lawndale Cemetery.
