ORONO, Maine — Internet giant AOL Inc. is planning to open a new financial analytics and accounting center at an industrial park in Orono, according to sources working with the company.
Details are still being finalized but AOL is already seeking employees for the facility, said Peter DelGreco, president and CEO of Maine & Company, which provides free and confidential consulting services to businesses looking to relocate to Maine or expand within Maine, according to its website.
“Maine & Company and our partners throughout the State have been working with AOL to explore opportunities to bring a finance and analytics operation to the Bangor/Orono area of Maine,” DelGreco said in a statement on Tuesday. “While logistical details are still being settled, AOL is proceeding with their recruiting efforts. Maine & Company believes that the introduction of new jobs in the state is great news for Maine and we are excited that AOL is beginning their workforce recruiting efforts here in Maine.”
Orono Town Manager Sophie Wilson referred questions about the business to Maine and Company.
AOL is also working with Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor to fill jobs, according to a statement last week released by the college.
“Over the past year, EMCC has taken a leadership role in discussions with AOL, the global web services leader,” read the release. “AOL plans to open a new financial analytics and accounting center in the [Maine Technology Industrial Park], which is off of Stillwater Avenue. This will create multiple local career opportunities in the fields of business, accounting and management.
“AOL is currently recruiting for candidates with finance, accounting or financial economics degrees,” EMCC’s release stated. “While some of these new positions require bachelor’s degrees, holders of associate’s degrees will also be considered for employment.”
Maine Technology Industrial Park is located on Godfrey Drive, and houses other businesses including Target Technology Center, NexxLynx, Bank of America, Black Bear Inn, U.S. Postal Service and Sensor Research and Development.
A job listings website posted 17 positions on Friday related to AOL in Orono. Officials did not release details on the total number of jobs expected to be created.
An email sent to AOL for comment was not immediately returned on Tuesday afternoon.
