NEW LIMERICK – Budson C. Anderson, 79, died unexpectedly June 19, 2013, at his home on Nickerson Lake. He was born Dec. 23, 1933, in Houlton, son of Linwood E. and Clara A. (Carroll) Anderson.
A lifelong resident of the Houlton area, Bud graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in 1951 and Ricker College in 1955. After serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Dix, N.J., he returned to Houlton and began his teaching and coaching career which lasted more than 30 years. While teaching at Houlton High School, he started the first golf team, which became a great success. Retiring from teaching in 1989, he worked for the United States Customs and Immigration Services. He was a member of Ricker College Board of Trustees, Houlton Lodge of Elks, Masonic Monument Lodge No. 96 and the Houlton Country Club. Bud was an avid golfer and skier, enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved challenging his grandsons, nieces and nephews in cribbage and gin rummy and often relaxed with daughter, Jayne, family and friends at his Nickerson Lake camp. He loved his daily dog walks with Ben. He enjoyed his activities with close buddies, whether it be breakfast and coffee, Thursday night bumper pool and regular golf outings.
Bud is survived by his daughters, Kim York and husband, Dick, of Charlotte, N.C., and Jayne Anderson of New Limerick; son, Jim Anderson and wife, Annie, of Davidson, N.C.; grandsons, Jamison York of New York City, Willson York and wife, Carey, of Herndon, Va., Nicholas York of Charlotte, N.C., and Logan Anderson of Davidson, N.C.; great-grandson, Carter York of Herndon, Va.; sisters, Betty Anderson of Houlton, and Judy Arnold and husband, David, of Newport News, Va.; brothers, Bob Anderson and wife, Jeannette, of Houlton, and Bill Anderson and wife, Betty, of Orient; several nieces and nephews; and close companion, Betty Stone. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Sandra E. (Adams) Anderson; and infant son, Stephen Linwood Anderson.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, at Dunn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, with Deacon Al Burleigh and Father David Raymond officiating.
