BREWER – Madeline Eva Messer, 98, passed away June 23, 2013, at her residence. Born to Harry and Mabel (Ladd) Sproul May 13, 1915, in Augusta, she was the youngest of four children and raised three of her own with love and devotion.
Madeline enjoyed her volunteer work with the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She devoted many hours to encouraging people in the community to read their Bible daily and offering them free home Bible studies.
Madeline was predeceased by all three of her siblings; daughter, Lorraine Roberts; daughter-in-law, Shirley Messer; and son-in-law, Richard Gilman. She is survived by her son, LeRoy Messer of Glen Alpine, N.C.; daughter, Jacqueline “Jackie” Gilman of Bangor; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by the staff and residents of Roosevelt, whom she loved.
Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to meet 1:45 p.m. along Mount Hope Avenue, Bangor. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
