AUGUSTA, Maine — Strong thunderstorms that struck the state Tuesday caused numerous power outages.
Central Maine Power spokeswoman Gail Rice said Wednesday morning 10,000 customers were without electricity shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Lightning, rain and high winds contributed to the outages.
Rice said the bulk of the outages occurred in Kennebec, Somerset and York counties. Kennebec County peaked at 2,300 outages, Somerset at 1,750 and York at 3,000.
As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, 735 CMP customers remained without electricity, with 420 in the dark in Somerset County. Rice expects all customers to have power restored by the end of Wednesday.
Bangor Hydro had as many as 3,372 customers in the dark during Tuesday’s storms, according to spokeswoman Susan Faloon.
Large circuits affecting small towns such as Corinth, Alton, Bradford and Charleston were affected, according to Faloon.
As of Wednesday morning, 108 Bangor Hydro customers were without power. All customers are expected to have power working by the end of the day.
