SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — State police are dealing with a major mess on I-295 after a five-car pile-up in South Portland, WGME 13 reports.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. Sunday near exits 2 and 3.
Maine State Police said the crash was the result of a driver who tried to make an unsafe lane change.
The driver overcorrected, hit a guardrail and went across the highway.
“What happened shortly afterwards is good samaritans saw the crash, decided to stop and weren’t completely in the breakdown lane. They were subsequently rear-ended by passing traffic,” Sgt. Robert Burke said.
