BIDDEFORD, Maine — Southern Maine Medical Center plans to construct a new medical office building with a $17.5 million bond through the Finance Authority of Maine.
The 40,000-square-foot building will house a variety of services, including internal medicine, orthopedic surgery and neurology practices, and a physical and occupational rehabilitation therapy clinic. The hospital plans to hire nine new employees in primary health care jobs as part of the project, according to a news release from FAME.
The tax-exempt bond financing, which also will fund some improvements to existing buildings, was made through a FAME program that allows bonds to be placed with private lenders, in this case TD Bank.
The 150-bed SMMC is a member of the MaineHealth system.
