WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. – Albert Montford Plourde, “Al,” or “Monte,” passed away June 5, 2013. He was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Millinocket, son of Albert G. and Isabel Plourde.
He was predeceased by both parents; sister, Helen; and brothers, Vinal, Leonard and Roger. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret; three children, Monte and Leah, Denise, and Robert and Jennifer; granddaughter, Rachael; brother, Albert; and sisters, Theresa, Pauline and Patricia.
A veteran of World War II, he served with an aviation engineering battalion attached to the Sixth Army Air Force in Rio Hato, Republic of Panama, then stateside with the U.S. Air Force Technical Training Command. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering at Washington University, St. Louis. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity for which he served as president during his junior year. He was also elected to Alpha Pi Mu, an industrial engineering honors society. Upon graduating, he was hired by Carter Carburetor Division of ACF Industries, St. Louis, as an industrial engineer. He later held supervisory positions in the industrial engineering and production planning/inventory control department and eventually was appointed to several executive staff positions-directing the operations, sequentially, of the purchasing, quality assurance and strategic planning departments for the division. Uppermost among his many hobbies were reading and big band music, and cataloging his collections. His fondness for music was evidenced in his vast record collection and the various instruments he enjoyed playing such as, guitar, ukulele, banjo, harmonica, and trombone.
A private interment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.
