ORONO, Maine — An Orono man is facing a pair of felony charges after threatening his roommate with a knife early Saturday, according to police.

The male victim woke up around 8:45 a.m. Saturday at an Orchard Trails apartment to Mussie Beyene, 33, in his bedroom, pointing a knife to his face and threatening to kill him, according to Orono police Capt. Josh Ewing.

When police interviewed the victim, he stated that he had a friend over the previous evening and the victim and Beyene had some sort of verbal disagreement, Ewing said.

Shortly before Beyene threatened his roommate, he awakened the other man from a couch in the living room and told him to leave, the captain said.

“He made some statements that led the friend to run out of the apartment,” Ewing said.

Police were called shortly after Beyene threatened the other man, and after all parties were interviewed, Beyene was placed under arrest.

He is accused of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and aggravated criminal trespassing, both Class C felonies that could send Beyene to prison for up to five years.

Beyene was taken to Penobscot County Jail and later released on bail. His first court appearance is Aug. 8.
