BRUNSWICK, Maine — Two Brunswick men were rescued from an island in the Androscoggin River on Sunday afternoon after jumping from the Androscoggin Swinging Bridge that spans the river between Topsham and Brunswick.

The two men, ages 18 and 19, were stranded on a small island beneath the bridge, according to Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department.

The Brunswick police and fire departments launched boats just after 1:30 p.m. and retrieved the men, who were uninjured, Hagan said.
