BANGOR, Maine — No drivers were injured Wednesday morning after an elderly woman was found driving the wrong way on Interstate 395, police said.

State police Trooper Trevor Bean said the initial call came in at 8:12 a.m. that the woman was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes in Brewer. The woman’s age and name were not released, as she was not involved in an accident or arrested.

Bean said Bangor and Brewer police assisted him, and that the woman exited the highway in the area of Main Street shortly after crossing the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge into Bangor.

Traffic was moderate at the time of the incident, Bean said, but he said police are fortunate the woman did not hit any eastbound drivers.

“She got off the highway in Bangor and that was the end of it,” the trooper said.

No charges are expected to be filed in connection with the incident.
