BOWDOINHAM, Maine — A Topsham man was charged with drunken driving after flipping his car Tuesday night on Post Road.

Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s deputies charged Gregory Thibeault, 24, of 27 Loon Drive, with operating while intoxicated after the 7:30 p.m. crash. Neither Thibeault nor his passenger, 20-year-old Nicholas Votta of Brunswick, was injured.

According to Chief Deputy Brett Strout, Thibeault was northbound in the 900 block of Post Road when his 2009 Ford Focus swerved off the road, rolled onto its side and skidded into a utility pole.

The collision snapped the pole and damaged the passenger side and hood of Thibeault’s car.

A nearby resident saw the accident and called the sheriff’s office. Town emergency and rescue crews also responded to the scene.

Investigators suspect driver inattention, aggravated by intoxication, to be what initially caused the collision.

Thibeault was ordered to appear Sept. 17 at West Bath District Court.
