HOULTON – Ida Bradley, 96, died peacefully July 4, 2013, at her daughter’s residence. She was born Nov. 7, 1916, in Woodstock, New Brunswick, daughter of Jeffrey and Alice (Flemming) Powers.
Ida worked at numerous places around the Houlton area and was best known at the J.J Newberry department store, Tingley’s Bakery, Reed’s Confection and the many hours volunteering at Houlton Regional Hospital. Her family was her greatest love, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and the light of her life, Ethan.
She is survived by three daughters, Peggy Benn of Weston, Joyce MacDonald and fiancé, Gene McCluskey of Houlton, and Alice Luhrs and husband, Robert, of Hammond; brother-in-law, Eugene Sawyer of Presque Isle; sister-in-law, Mary Hunt of Dexter; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two special friends, Patrice Lunney and Mildred Reece; stepchildren, Maynard Bradley and wife, Nancy, of Canaan, Ricarda Stairs of Canada and Paul Sabattis of Anchorage, Alaska. She was predeceased by her husband, Don Bradley; infant son, Merle Sawyer; son, Forest “Red” Sawyer; brother, George Powers; and stepson, Allen Bradley.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Funeral Home. Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Houlton Military Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Burns officiating. Interment will be at Linneus Cemetery.
