HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Sterling E. Haskell, 82, formerly from Northeast Harbor, died July 5, 2013, in Hackettstown, N.J. He was born May 15, 1931, at Mount Desert Island Hospital, Bar Harbor, to Dr. G. Merrill and Mildred (VanDerKar) Haskell of Northeast Harbor, where Sterling grew up.
Sterling graduated from Gould Academy, Bethel, in l949, and RCA Institute in New York City, in l952. For many years he worked for Vast, Inc., Waldoboro, as an electronics design engineer. In 1952 he married Dorothy Haynes, also of Northeast Harbor, and last October they celebrated their 60th anniversary. Sterling was a private pilot and an amateur radio operator. He also enjoyed golfing, sailing, water skiing, snow skiing and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Bruce and wife, Helen, of Long Valley, N.J.; three grandchildren, Bridget Corby of Long Valley, N.J., Cornelius Haskell of Morristown, N.J., and Elizabeth Haskell, also of Long Valley, N.J.; and great-grandson, Andrew Corby.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor, with private graveside prayers to be held later in the summer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift to your favorite charity in Sterling’s memory.
